Blepharoplasty or Eyelid Surgery

zd Blepharoplasty or Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is a cosmetic surgery that aims to rejuvenate the eyes. This is to correct the excess skin on the upper eyelids and remove pockets of fat in the lower eyelids, while at the same time reducing wrinkles.

Causes may be genetic or hereditary or simply due to aging of the skin.

Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper or lower eyelids, or both simultaneously.

Who is it addressed to?

This procedure is indicated for both men and women around 40 years old, for some people it can be done before the age of 25 when it is a family case.

– When the upper eyelid falls and causes discomfort when looking to the horizon or in order to remove excess fat pocket above the inner corner of the eyes.

– On the lower eyelids and for the same reasons as above, but in this case we have three compartments: external, middle and inner.

You should know that blepharoplasty is often associated with other cosmetic surgeries such as face refreshment or cheekbones refreshment for a rejuvenation of the upper face.

Procedure

Eyelid surgery is a procedure that lasts about an hour and that this done under local anesthesia with administration of intravenous tranquilizers.

– For upper eyelid: The incision is small, hidden in the natural fold at the groove between the movable part and the fixed part. Excess skin is removed and if necessary the existing excess fat around the inner corner of the eye near the nose is also removed. Then the incision is closed with very thin absorbable suture thereby leaving no scar.

– For lower eyelids: incision is made along the lash namely 1 or 2mm, then fat pockets are removed, excess skin is retightened and put topspin. Sutures are made with very thin absorbable stiches.

Following the surgery, we put on a dressing in the form of elastic bands during 2 to 3 hours.

Postoperative effects

After the surgery and depending on each patient, edema and mild swelling may appear; they disappear gradually after a few days. It is advised to apply cold compresses to reduce swelling.

In the weeks after surgery, scars are slightly pink but may be hidden by a light makeup.

After 2 to 3 months, the scars become almost invisible and the result is significant.
